Wine Tours at Priorat Vineyard

In just a 10 minute drive from Mora d'Ebre you can be amongst the vineyards of Priorat and Montsant. The area is characterised by the imposing massif of Montsant itself, hilltop villages, winding roads and steep sided terraces. The distinctive terroir of "licorella" -a dry, slaty and thin topsoil produces a low yield of grape but powerful wines.

The demise and regeneration of Priorat and Montsant wine is a remarkable story. Although the origins of wine making here go back to the Carthusian Monks of the 12th century, modern, commercial production only started in the late 1980's. Yet, Priorat is one of only 2 regions in Spain that has achieved DOQ status.

45 wineries throughout Priorat and Montsant now offer guided tours. Apart from offering the chance to sample some fine wine and get out into the heart of this most breathtaking countryside, it is the individual stories of how each cellar has made its mark on the international stage that make these cellar tours so fascinating. Explore them on your own or join one of our wine tour excursions.
